Moments: Hello

I’ve been disenchanted with media lately. I mostly blame American politics for this, it’s overwhelming and one idiotic thing after another on Twitter, Facebook, & Instagram. I feel probably worse than when George Bush Jr. was elected and I basically gave up following politics for 8 years. I who used to religiously watch C-span as a teenager or Anderson Cooper when he was a morning host for ABC news on the East Coast. Yes, I’ve always been an insomniac even then.

I was just thinking about taking a long social media and blog posting hiatus, as I’ve been feeling like everything I post is a bit pointless in the scheme of things, when I received this email yesterday.

Hello.

You don’t know me, nor I you, but I’ve recently and randomly come across one of your posts, and became intrigued. I find you to be a breath of fresh air, one of the beautifully rare exceptions to the human condition, and I wanted to take a moment to let you know that you’re appreciated for being a good person. So thank you for being you, a glimmer of light and positivity in this otherwise bleak state of Idiocracy.

– A fellow geek.

If I’m a breath of fresh air, this email was a defibrillator for my waning spirit. It’s hard to be positive in the face of current events. It’s difficult feeling that things are out of control, but you want to help make things better somehow. I’m actually not sure if I’m being a good person sometimes, but it’s nice to know that someone thinks so.

Thanks again.
