Moments: When TI-85s Were Cool

MS texted me a congrats about a work thing, and because I started talking about myself in the 3rd person we digressed to talking about the days when we spent a lot of time in IRC.

MS: I met a gf on irc. She lived in LA, her cousins were in Fremont. I just met them at like a movie theater because that seemed totally safe and fine
ME: Oh wow, I never met any of my online friends in person. Although we did send snail mail. Which probably could’ve also been really dangerous at the time. Cause then they know where you live.
MS: I mean, looking back we were internet dating pioneers, but no way would i do that today if i was the same age.
ME: It was all innocent enough
MS: It sure seemed like it.
MS: #ticalc was super cool, too. Talking about TI calculator programming
ME: And I remember the day on IRC when I realized ‘:)’ was a smiley face. It blew my mind lol.
ME: I love the one 3-D ball jumping game on my TI 85! That was when you were cool. Also, cool is relative when talking about calculator programming.
MS: My friend and i made the $5 parallel cables and would bring all the z-shell games to school and load them on everyone’s calculators.
MS: Cool = I’m dying 💀
MS: That was me, though!
ME: I was a nerd. It was cool.
